Does every investment option have a clear purpose?
Use this as a business discussion about the proposition your firm offers. Include relevant advice, investment and operations colleagues. Tick questions as you discuss them, even where further work is needed. The completion count is a record of discussion, not an assessment of investment suitability or quality.
Type notes below, or print a blank copy for your discussion. Use your browser’s print dialogue to save a PDF. Notes stay in this page only and are lost when it is closed or reloaded. They are not sent to Firm and Portfolio.
Discussion date and participants
1. Explain the choices
1.1 Do we have a current picture of the investment solutions actually used, including legacy arrangements and exceptions?
1.2 Can we explain the intended client needs and the business purpose served by each part of the proposition?
1.3 Where do options overlap, and have we established whether their differences are useful or simply unclear?
2. Understand delivery and oversight
2.1 Is responsibility clear for approving the available options, reviewing them and agreeing exceptions?
2.2 Do we understand the administration, training, communications and oversight required to support each option?
2.3 Can advisers and relevant colleagues explain the proposition consistently, including where they should seek further guidance?
3. Plan any further review
3.1 Which uncertainties need better evidence or specialist assessment before a business decision can be made?
3.2 Have we separated decisions about the future proposition from any assessment of changes affecting existing clients?
3.3 Can we name the next decision, its owner and the information required, without assuming that simplification means moving client assets?

Use the discussion to create a short list of business questions and responsibilities. This checklist does not recommend investments, assess individual clients or provide assurance about the proposition. Any client-level or investment decision requires its own appropriate assessment and process.
Completion records questions considered; it is not a business score or assurance.
